On Monday July 5 2004 a retirement banquet was held at Fair Bluff Fire Rescue's main station honoring his 35 years as Chief. Chief Meares served as Chief from February 1969 to July 2004. Please go to our history page to see his accomplishments.
On October 2, 2003 Fair Bluff Fire & Rescue was awarded a grant of $116,945.00 for fire fighting equipment and personal protective equipment. Which included the purchase of the following: several sections of 1 3/4" hose, a drop tank, suction hose and strainers, K-12 saw, high pressure air bag system, turn-out gear, air packs and spare bottles, RIT kit, portable and mobile radios, cascade system, and a radio repeater system. All equipment has been purchased and is in use today.
In 2001 Fair Bluff Fire & Rescue applied and received a Grant of $60,000 from USDA/Rural Development, and combined with a 5 year loan of $25,000 purchased a new ambulance built by Wheeled Coach. It was delivered on July 23, 2001 and was placed in service shortly thereafter.
