On May 12, 2012 Capt. Jerry Meares and Firefighter Ashleigh Wilson were responding to assist Horry
County Fire Rescue with a 180 acre woods fire off of Hwy 501 near Myrtle Beach SC when the front right
tire blew out, causing the unit that they were in to over turn several times. Even though Firefighter Wilson
was restrained she was ejected from the unit and Captain Meares was entrapped, partially under the
apparatus, for approx. 35 minutes.
Sunday May 27, 2012 11:00am
Jerry Meares was discharged late yesterday afternoon from Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He
was taken home where he will recieve physical therapy several days a week. He still has a long road to
recovery.
